sushi Sushi SUSHI

I could really eat it every day. Have I said that before?

Today’s sushi taste really great, but did not exactly go according to plan. I have been served brown rice sushi before, haven’t you?

Hmm. I used regular brown rice. It was fine, although for this recipe I really wanted to do an outside roll – impossible without sticky sushi rice. I’ll be trying this again very soon. I’m stubborn that way, thankyouverymuch Grandpa Z. ;)

Still. The filling? Amazing. I could and did eat this by itself. This is what I used:

Tofu:

Green onion:

My favorite, sriracha:

I mixed the sriracha with vegenaise, added it to tofu + onion:

After mixing, I tasted, then added a bit more sriracha:

Vegan Sushi Filling:

one block tofu
2 tablespoons Vegenaise
5 tablespoons sriracha sauce – or to your heat level
5 green onions, chopped

I made a pot of brown rice.

I gave up my designs on having outside rolls.

I was going to make outside rolls, and coat them in this:

This stuff is amazing.

I will do the outside roll…

Tonight, with the brown rice, I rolled traditional. I covered the nori sheet with rice, then sprinkled furikake, then added the vegan filling:

The sun was setting as we enjoyed our sushi.

This was fabulously delicious.

I want to do it again, Right Now.

Happy Friday, everyone. Have a fabulous weekend.

Your sushi looks so pretty! The one time I tried to make sushi it was truly an epic fail. Maybe it’s time to put on my big girl pants and try again :)

You make this look so easy, but I’m pretty sure I would mess it up!

it is really pretty easy. sharp knife is key – more important than the rolling mat…

and it’s really fun!

You’ve impressed me yet again! And I smile every time you use Sriracha. We’re like Sriracha sisters. Obsessed.

These look so good. I want to make sushi rolls and have yet to get the nerve to try it – or buy all the stuff….

depending on what you make, it doesn’t have to be a lot of stuff to buy…

a SHARP knife is absolutely more important than having a rolling mat – you could roll without it, I think…

a package of nori / seaweed is inexpensive, and hopefully sort of easy to find if you have access to an asian market?

the thought of it is MUCH more daunting than making it! :) and it’s FUN ! :)

I still prefer sushi with fish, but this is a good alternative for those who are vegan. Looks tasty, regardless. ;)
