National Love Your Body Day

Today is Love Your Body Day.

As some of you know, I am learning to run again. I’ve had some successes recently… and some setbacks.

I am confident that I WILL run again, at the level that I used to. My body is strong and resilient, and can do this.

Over the years, my body …

has soared off ski jumps, and sped down black diamonds. It has performed a back scratcher and a daffy on skis, and has had fun doing so. It can do this.

has competed in singles and doubles tennis matches, and won a few. It can do this.

has walked miles and miles around some of my favorite cities – from New York to Portland. It can do this.

has coached Special Olympics weight lifting. and Loved It. It can do this.

has modeled Saks FIfth Avenue fashions on AM NorthWest – Portland’s version of The Today Show. It can do this.

has run around many a track – barefoot – my favorite way to run. My coach in high school called me Flash.

It can do this! It will run again!

your body has allowed you do some serious things–congrats. Good luck with the running.

You totally CAN DO THIS! You will run again my friend. You’ve accomplished a lot of really cool stuff with that bod of yours. I love that my body is string enough to hike and bike and run. I love that my body gives some of the strongest, tightest hugs around! Billy loves my tight hugs. I also love that my body speaks to me and I’ve learned to listen. :)

Wow, your body has done alot—I love your list! And I didn’t even know it was Love Your Body Day–very cool. Also very cool about coaching special olympics–that’s very noble of you.

My body has given me the strength to move cross country twice in my life, run my first 5K and carry me around yet I still have issues with my body and knock it.

PS-Love the tattoo!

thanks… Special Olympics was so fun… it was in college and I coached for two “seasons”… I sometimes miss it and think about doing it again…

wow, you’ve ran barefoot?? you are hard core! i run in the Nike Free Runs (which mimic barefoot running) but that’s not nearly as impressive. good for you, girl!

I love running barefoot… I’m not as hardcore as some – who run “off road” barefoot – I stick to smooth pavement or tracks… in high school I SWORE it made me faster!

Great post! I love the idea of stopping to think not just about the way our bodies look, but about the way our bodies can do pretty amazing things. Let’s see: my legs have let me hike through the Andes on the Inca Trail, my hands have made celebratory meals, my arms next month will hold my to-be-born nephew!

running is still having it’s good and not-so-good days… just some days where I cannot really run much – achy or pain… it IS getting better as a whole, though, and I am excited!! looking forward to reading your 5k recap – congrats!!
