sushi

One of my favorite foods is sushi – I always say I could eat it every day. It has been far too long since I’ve been out for sushi, but another favorite is making it at home, which I have done a few times lately.

I’ve posted a sushi tutorial of sorts before, so this time I’ll just show the finished product.

I made these asparagus rolls in December. Between holiday baking and events with amazing food, we needed something fresh and clean.

I also made my tofu sriracha filling, making a hand roll this time:

One thing I love about making my own sushi at home? I can make a roll and eat it immediately, so the nori is perfectly crunchy the way I like it.

The other day, I made a few simple rolls. Another favorite, avocado:

Avocado and mango:

I love mango in sushi.

Dessert? More mango, nigiri style!

Do you like sushi? What is your favorite?

Have you ever made it yourself?

Gorgeous! I’ve not made it yet, but have the fixings. My sister just mentioned that it’d be fun to make sushi the next time she visits so I think that’s a must do now!

I really have to try this – I always see seaweed and want to use it but never knew how. Now I know! Also, you had me at Siracha!

sriracha is the best… seaweed is pretty GOOD for you, too… I buy these “snack packs” of smaller squares of it – and eat it like chips – YUM!

I also looooove mango in sushi! I’ve got to take a trip to the Asian market to get supplies… I’m dying to make my own rolls!

I like sushi but only if it has cooked shrimp or veggies. I’m too chicken to try raw fish in sushi!

I still haven’t tried making my own, but it’s something Billy is very interested in trying. I love the simplicity of an avocado roll. I can imagine the mango gives it a special kick.

I like sushi, but honestly, almost prefer the veggie rolls to anything else- purely out of their simplicity!

yep – I don’t get TOO fancy when I am making it… I save that for the pros!

They all look so great!

I’ve made sushi before using the Veganomicon recipe (spicy tempeh nori rolls), and ani phyo’s ginger-almond pate… it was amazing.

Out of curiosity… what are the red dots in the asparagus sushi?

I love sushi and would eat it at every meal if possible (or if I didnt die of mercury poisoning!)

I think you should make breakfast sushi-I always thought that would be a cool idea!

Hell, avocado and mango?! Amazing! I’ve got to try that. I love the top photo – it’s fitting you made them in December because they look exactly like Christmas: rice white as snow, red and green baubles and even the asparagus tip sticking up like a tree. Beautiful. Tasty too, I bet.

nice. i love your variety of rolls and especially the mango. i don’t think ive ever seen that. the best part about making sushi at home is that you can put whatever you want in it!!! have you tried adding tofutti to your rolls? it mimics the california roll if you add avocado and cucumber. yum. awesome post. thanks for sharing.

the mango is REALLY good! I have done tofutti – with asparagus – YUM.
