This week’s #fitblog topic is How fit is your fridge?
To go along with the theme, Katy persuaded us to post photos of a look inside our fridge on the fitblog facebook wall. Even as I was taking these photos I wondered if I would actually post them – here you go, a peek into my fridge!
Top shelf:
Milk – coconut and hazelnut. Perfect Foods Bar – these are amazing. Coconut waters, apple cider vinegar, my Vitamineral Green, Lecithin Powder and liquid Vitamin D!
oh, and one bottle of Irn Bru.
Second shelf:
This is my YUM shelf! Obviously we like kalamata olives. Pickles (three jars!). Homemade hummus. Fresh ginger root. Marcona almonds. Yellow mustard (I had a craving a couple weeks ago!), organic ketchup and a vegetarian “fish sauce”. Crofters jam and a jar of Speculoos in the back. Like I said, YUM!
Third shelf:
Three packages of corn tortillas. Vegan cheeses. A tube of quinoa polenta. Tempeh, two kinds of tofu and a baked tofu under the tempeh. That huge jar in the back? Brewcraft sorghum syrup… Jason’s beer making.
Bottom shelf:
This is the only shelf that is not really a true depiction – normally there are two more large boxes also – my weekly supply of spinach. Also whatever produce that does not fit in the crisper drawers. Don’t ask me why, my bell peppers are generally on my counter with the bananas, apples, avocados and onions (three large bowls). I rarely buy green bells, and when I do, they go in the fridge. I don’t know why.
Two crisper drawers below? Filled with juicing carrots, beets and celery, green beans and two bags of hops for Jason’s beer making.
So there it is! Obviously I need to replenish my spinach – the only grocery store I went to today was the Asian market and they didn’t have any. I need to remedy that before I start having withdrawal symptoms.
I also answered this weeks #fitblog questions:
Q1: What do you consider healthy eating?
Healthy eating to me includes fresh juicing, greens and fruit. Protein comes from cashews, beans, quinoa. I keep dairy, gluten and processed foods to a minimum, and we love dining out and look for restaurants that are sustainable, using fresh whole food, local when possible. Healthy eating also means balance and indulging cravings.
Q2: Do you consider your diet healthy?
I do. Often I eat raw all day, then share a cooked meal with Jason in the evening. I juice at least once a day, usually twice. and I love my spinach smoothies as well!
Q3: What’s your favorite healthy food?
Cashews! Quinoa. Spinach. Bell peppers. Nutritional yeast. Bananas. Dates, figs, dried apricots.
Q4: What’s one thing you could do to improve your diet?
Cut out dairy altogether. I don’t often eat it, but sometimes I do, and the result is sometimes congestion. Sticking to the anti-inflammatory diet makes me feel AWESOME !
If you have a blog, have you ever done a “what’s in my fridge” post? Share the link in the comments – I want to see!
What is your definition of healthy eating? Favorite healthy food?

I will definitely do a what’s in my fridge post after we move… right now we’re sharing with our roommate so we only have half!! My half rules though.
LOVE Perfect Food Bars. Wish my fridge was stalked with them.
SO good!
I just realized I meant *stocked. I always have stalking on the brain.
HAAAA! this is awesome. I didn’t even notice. Hmm… what does that mean?
Your fridge looks so neat…jealous! I have loads of veggies in my fridge. I keep tempeh and tofu on hand, vegan cheeses, almond milk, beer, and tons of leftovers
I have a million condiments and of course pickles and olives. Gotta have those right?
Now after reading your post, I feel terribly unhealthy!!
oh, GOSH, Heather – you eat uber awesome healthy!! I could do a separate post on the DOOR… that’s where most of the condiments are… HOT SAUCE!
LOL – I would love to see a “door” post!
Yeah….no kidding! I need to CLEAN my fridge before I can post photos. LOL
we are fridge twinkies!! even the perfect foods bars. Love it!
aren’t those bars gooood? I love them. yay twins!
and the almond cheese, my favorite!
I love it too!
Your fridge contents look great! It was fun reading your answers to the #fitblog questions. I love your idea of healthy eating.
I did a “what’s in my fridge” post a few weeks back. My fridge reeeeeally needed a cleaning.
Here’s the link:

I LOVE your post! so thorough… I could do a completely separate post on the door alone… that’s where there are some questionable condiments. there are two hot sauces I use, the rest are Jasons.
I wish I had a bigger fridge to store more of my grains – ideally I’d love TWO refrigerators!
hmmmm
loved the look into your fridge.
can see room for improvement in mine, however…today would be a great day, since i did clean it this morning
I would post pics, but I swear half my refrigerator is stocked with the condiments that go with the fresh food that slowly rotates through. As a single-person household, I only buy a little at a time (several times a week). So it would probably be sort of misleading (even if I really do love my salad dressing options… ha ha).
haa… my door has two bottles of club soda, the rest of it is hot sauce bottles and condiments
You are a far braver woman than I am. My fridge is way to embarrassing to share with everyone right now
Although if my fridge looked as good as yours I would probably share it!
I’ve never heard of a Perfect Foods Bar. I’m interested in learning more about them.
ha… Tracey, did you notice I didn’t show the DOOR?
it’s full of condiments… hot sauces mostly, but it’s just a mess. The Perfect Foods Bar is really good – very flavorful!
I have never done a “show my fridge” post and I’m not sure why I haven’t!
I would so love to swap fridge contents with you — great stuff!
do one, Holly! it’s kinda fun
I feel healthiest being fueled by nature’s plant based foods but I often indulge in treats. What’s healthy to me is having the energy to live a vital and thriving lifestyle. My fab five health foods are bananas, cashews, sweet potatoes, avocados & coconut.
best answer ever!
this is exactly how I feel, Stephanie. obviously there are times I indulge in treats, a cocktail or glass of wine. most of those choices are not for nutritional value.
I’ll even eat a piece of bread when we are out, if it looks amazing
but that’s not the norm, because I LOVE that “vital and thriving” feeling too!
i haven’t done a wha’ts in my fridge post yet, mainly because its a MESS. your fridge looks SUPER fit!
hee – a funny thing to say, “you fridge looks super fit”
both my fridge and pantry definitely get out of hand, and then I do a deep clean. In my dream kitchen, I have TWO refrigerators… one FULL of produce, one with everything else! plenty of space to keep in clean and organized all the time!
Shoot girl! You must have some healthy guts with all the quality food you ingest!!!! You know, I went on a super clean heath kick thinking I’d turn myself into an Italian version of Richard Simmons…diet, exercise, the works! And you know what???? After 6 months of it, I gained a pregnant Buddha belly! No lie! And I was miserable because I missed my comfort food.
So I threw away the quinoa, buckwheat goats, etc, etc, and filled my pantry with cookies, crackers, chips, pasta, chocolate (oh Lordy! I’m going for a pantry run…I’ll be back)
Ok, I’m back (pardon the Dorito breath)…so my point is, now I’m back to my normal, feel good self! Ha!
ha… there’s (fake) CHEESE in there!!
well, more power to ya! there are (so many…) times I miss a New York style pizza, or a warm crusty baguette with melted butter… and wish I could eat those things WHILE feeling as good as I do with greens
while I cannot eat A LOT in one sitting, I do have a gut of steel for most things.
Oh fun! If I posted my fridge I’d be embarassed now! hehe
It’s an old post about my fridge and the content http://kirantarun.com/blog/2008/03/15/qotd-refrigerator-attack/
thanks for sharing, friend! your fridge looks great and I LOVE the glass of herbs – looks so fresh and bountiful! I do this too, and they still only last a day or so…
I can’t wait for my garden so I have fresh herbs just steps away!
Happy Wednesday!
Great idea! I’ll make a post like that!
May I have your fridge, please? If no, I’d already be happy with the content.
oh, please do!! it’s funny how we like to peek into each others lives, right?
you know how they say (who IS they?) people always LOOK into medicine cabinets at other houses? I have always wanted to fill mine with PING PONG BALLS before a party or something… wouldn’t that be a HOOT? not to offend anyone, I think anyone I would do it to would be good natured and get a kick out of it!
Hehehe. I’d love to the see the faces when people find ping pong balls in your medical cabinet.
(They’ll wonder, “What does she do with them? Are there drugs in there? Hihi.)
haa! well, the (mean!) reason I would do it is because they’d all fall out and make a lot of noise and bounce around! WEEEE!
Hehehe. (Reapeating myself.) Like, somebody snooping around your private things, and – BAM – busted!
My fridge post will be before and after my move maybe? I did one in the past and its always fun! My fridge is FIT girl!
but the real question is…
How funky is your chicken?
haaaaaaa. love it. you’re awesome. I KNOW your fridge is fit! XXO
I was bummed I missed fitblog–looks like a fun one! But it was too nice not to spend it outside.
My fridge is just okay. There’s some processed food in there — also currently have lots of bread (partly because of the house guest we had for 2 weeks). But there’s also tons of fruit and veggies.
your eats always look balanced and thought out – I bet your fridge (sans house guests!) is fine!
I was not really at fitblog either – I “checked in” and answered two questions, I think, but I was sitting with Basil outside, playing with my new photography stuff and enjoying the weather!
I’m going to do the “project” and take photos of my fridge. I like the questions. I’m already thinking of things I can toss from my fridge!
It’s hard because my fridge isn’t necessarily reflective of how *I* eat…Michael eats stuff that I’d never eat! For example: REAL soda! I drink sparkling water or sometimes diet only!
oh, yeah, I was going to say that in my reply too – just post the answers to your questions! many people do that, whether they miss fitblog or just as a recap
I think if I included the DOOR, that is where the things are different – besides a couple of hot sauces that I will use, there are many sauces that are Jason’s only (he likes WAY HOT!). and beer. I don’t drink the beer.
looking forward to your post – good reason to clean the fridge!
I am a total condiment junkie!
three cheers for perfect foods bars!
hip hip!
Love seeing what other people’s fridge looks like
I have not done a post on my fridge yet it is a good idea though…. guess I better get on that though at the moment since I have been out of town my fridge is really empty! haha
I do too! any kind of “peek into” post we all seem to like right? human nature to be curious, I suppose! haa… YES, perfect time to do a fridge post! wait, NOW at empty or just AFTER a shopping trip?
My current favorite healthy foods are avocados and sweet potatoes. I have literally been eating at least one of each per day for the last few weeks! I just can’t get enough.
both of those are EXTREMELY good for you, so you can’t go wrong with daily consumption! that sounds great to me, even eaten together!
Mmm, loving the shelf with the tofu, tempeh, and vegan cheese! I’ll just take up residence on that shelf, mmkay? haha!
I did a post on my poor empty fridge and what it took to fill it up a couple of months ago:
http://kissmybroccoli.wordpress.com/2011/02/04/feeling-up-the-icebox/
And then within a month, I sold my house and had to try my best to eat through everything! Lol!
And to me, healthy eating is choosing foods that provide your body the nutrients that it needs with minimally processed/refined ingredients. When I eat clean, I feel clean!
oh, Heather, you SAID it!! I feel the same way and say that all the time – I love the energy and CLEAN feeling of eating well!
ha – that’s my favorite shelf too, or the most used, at least! girl, I loved your icebox post – you are a GREAT shopper!
and I remember following you up to the move! nothing beats a CLEAN fridge, both in a good scrub clean AND the contents!
this is a great article, inspired me to just CLEAN my fridge. gets so out of control at times, and it really goes fairly quickly. clean my fridge by scrubbing it, of course, and also fill it with clean foods!
thank you for inspiration betty!
ha! I just did something similar for a class project (nutrition major), pictures and all! our refrigerators are sorta similar, actually.
such a fun post! I am doing a project like it for my nutrition class at uni, found this site. Glad to see there are many who are curious about others fridges!!
now you get it
see? MEAN! …but all in good fun!
No, not mean at all! *Mean* is snooping around other people’s private stuff! Having to bear ping pong balls coming down around you is just the legitimate consequences.
heee heee! yes, see? that’s what I always thought! if you’re snoopin’… we will all HEAR about it!
Retributive justice, my friend – retributive justice!
Ahh, so good once in a while …
