fresh!

in Basil is a Young Sportsman,daily juice,recipes

We ate so many wonderful foods on vacation. One thing I missed was lots of fresh produce in my kitchen, and my daily juicing.

I immediately went grocery shopping when we returned home.

I filled my cart full without leaving the produce section.

Perfect bananas, lots of avocados.

Vibrant peppers!

In fact, I only bought two things outside the produce section.

I bet someone can figure out what these are for…

Bringing all of this freshness home made me very happy.
Then I made this.

refreshing post-vacation detox

serves one

1 grapefruit, peeled
1 lemon, peeled
1 – inch piece ginger
1 orange bell pepper
5 carrots
7 celery

Juice and enjoy! I sure did.

An hour later I made another. :D

yes, home sweet home and Sweet Sweet Basil Pup! :D he had a great time at my parents, a constant Long Dog Party with their two doxies, but I always miss him so! I think this is the longest vacation away from him we’ve had!

just had my morning juice – delicious freshness!

Ahem, I mean I *laughed* so hard! These are my favorite mistakes – switching word that sound the same but are spelled differently. Like love and laugh above. Mail and male. Peace and pieces. (Yeah, I cut my apples into peaces, very piecefully! :D )

Chai nut butter? You better believe I’m checking that out next! We do the same thing after a long vacation – hit up the store and buy as much produce as humanly possible! Everything looks amazing, especially those avocados. I think I’m on a major avocado kick right now.

when am I NOT on an avocado kick?!!? ;) it was REALLY fun to unpack all of this wonderful produce… I ate a pear on the drive home!!

I miss juicing too when I don’t do it for a few days!

I tried grapefruit once and it was a little too tart for me – love the other juice ingredients!

17 spabettie May 21, 2011 at 7:37 am

grapefruit is one of my favorites, but I love tart! :) we were able to find juice most mornings for breakfast, but there’s really nothing like FRESH, you know?

All that produce looks gorgeous :) Here in lame TN, the produce isn’t very good at all :( Makes it harder to get the proper amounts in! Glad you had a nice vacation!

19 spabettie May 21, 2011 at 8:01 am

thank you, Stefani – we had a nice break! I’m sorry produce isn’t as bountiful there – hearing this always makes me feel SO incredibly thankful for what we DO have here… especially this time of year with many farmers markets. I wish I could SEND it to you!! :)

20 Stefani May 21, 2011 at 8:04 am

Thanks, girl :) I just wish we were elsewhere :) That is our ultimate plan..save up and move away! It’s very hard to be gluten-free here! They have next to nothing that is gluten-free and what little they do have is far too expensive.

21 spabettie May 21, 2011 at 8:11 am

oh no – that’s just as bad as lack of produce! :( I hope you are able to fulfill your move wish soon – what areas would you like to end up?

22 Stefani May 21, 2011 at 8:35 am

Thank you! Yes, it has been difficult but I am doing it, which is all that matters at this point :) We are hoping to eventually end up in California somewhere but in the short term we are thinking maybe Phoenix. I was out there when I was 16 and loved it and it is more affordable than California, but our ultimate goal is to end up in California…well, unless we end up moving back to London LOL

That is an adorable top! And I’m super impressed…. I never have the energy to do anything after unloading all my groceries. Let alone making them look all pretty in a lightbox haha. I just throw all the bags into a giant ball, slam my cabinets/fridge then move on. Can you tell I always come home with too much!? :)

Reply

26 spabettie May 21, 2011 at 8:16 pm

ha – don’t be TOO impressed, this was all just out of the bags onto my counter! :) I do know what you mean about the giant bag ball, though! when I have more than my reusables, I ask for plastic because we use them for going on walks with Basil… you know… ;) and I have one bag full of all the others. it’s big.

hope you are having a FABULOUS weekend!!

Hi Jenn! I’ve actually been reading for a bit – added you to my reader a month ago or so – cannot recall now where I found you but I’m glad I did! :) I’ve just returned from vacation, so I hadn’t been commenting much anywhere the last couple weeks! I hope I didn’t add to confusion – and yes, the extra could go into savings too! good luck with it!

Your post title is perfect! Fresh indeed. :-) You’ll never believe the first thing I thought of when I saw the peanut butter and chickpeas … soup! Pete and Kelli over at No Gluten, No Problem just made soup with those ingredients. Pete said it was great! ;-)

Welcome home! That detox juice sure looks lovely. :-) xo,
Shirley
