As part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program, I received another new product to sample – Newtons Fruit Thins. I was happy to see they sent me the Fig and Honey flavor, as I love figs! There are other flavors that sound good – Chocolate Raspberry, Cranberry Citrus Oat and Blueberry Brown Sugar.
A thin crispy cookie, they contain real fruit and whole grains (8 grams per serving). I love a thin crispy cookie and these were good!
I cannot leave well enough alone, though. I had to make a sandwich cookie out of them – with more fig!
vanilla fig spread
fills 8 sandwich cookies
8 dried figs
6 Medjool dates, pitted
10 drops NuNaturals Vanilla Stevia
1 tablespoon nut butter
1 tablespoon chia seed gel
Process in food processor. Spread on cookie, top with another cookie. Enjoy!
The cookies are tasty on their own, and with this spread sandwiched between, just lovely. This spread is also good as an oatmeal topping, rolled into a ball as an energy bite, eaten off a spoon…

*drool* That vanilla fig spread sounds delightful! Beautiful little cookie sandwiches.
Thanks, Courtney! I love figs…
im in the ATL airport but those look amazing
and per your last comment to me re Cloud storage. SUPER helpful. thank you! i hate ext hard drives, such a pain, then i still have hardware one day to deal with so thanks for that info…virtual everything. love.it.
thanks, Averie! they are pretty tasty
yes – cloud storage – dropbox is AWESOME. we’ve had it for a while now, and it’s great. there are shared folders too, so you can share between computers, which is really nice (Jason and I give each other things all the time, music, photos, just drag it in!) virtual everything – I love it too!
XO safe travels!
I know there are others, dropbox is all I know… and I am NOT affiliated with them, ha! just love them!
Those look yummy! I need to give figs a shot… Someday.
they are SO good, Mary!
I wish I could send some of these your way…
Mmm, over oatmeal would be delicious! I am in love with dried figs, and I still need to try fresh ones!
fresh figs are delicious too – you really need to try them, Liz… I think you’d like them!
Wow–this looks amazing! I love figs. I’ll bet this spread is perfect in between two cookies!
yep, it kinda was
I love figs too… wait until you see what else I did with them… with a fresh fig… Mmm!
whoa. hold. the. phone.
I am a fig fanatic and i think you just became my hero.
not only does the spread sound amazing (and I would eat by the spoonful. probably in one sitting…) but I’ve never heard of those thins before! Sound awesome.
the thins are new! hopefully you can find them soon – until then, my dear, enjoy the spread with a spoon! sincerely, your hero
(hope you have a great weekend, Jess!)
These look amazing — I love fig newtons and I need to look for this product!
I love fig newtons too – these are kind of a crunchy version! (especially with the fig spread)
Oh huge drool. These look sooo good and the recipe has been bookmarked. Thanks for sharing, have a great day.
thank YOU, Roz! hope you have a great weekend!
Such a creative idea for a filling! Too bad the cookies aren’t gluten-free, looks like I’ll be rolling with a spoon
haa – I know… I ate most of this with a spoon
oooooo yummm! These look delightful
thank you, Jen!
These look so good! I’m 100% addicted to dates and figs, and was thinking of making fig bread soon. I might make this spread while I have the food processor going- although I’ll have to clean it out before making your spinach pancakes!
Btw, isn’t Newman’s Own a great brand? Fig Newmans especially, and I’d definitely try these thins!
oooh, fig bread. that sounds amazing. hee – there are days my food processor gets rinsed, used again, rinsed, used again…
I love those days…
OMG those look amazing! Is it wrong that I wanna use them to scoop up warm goat cheese?
SO NOT WRONG, Alayna! I did that the first day I got them, and it was GOOD… you’ll see… when I went to schedule this post I had to decide which one to post first… goat cheese will come soon!
Love the filling idea. I bet it would be fantastic for other uses too. YUM. Love your creativity.
yes – many uses – this is sort of the topping I use for a fruit bar I make.
I LOVE fig Newman’s. So much that I eat an entire box in one sitting! It’s OOC, but I’m fine with it since it’s not everyday! Thanks for the recipe post, now I can make them at home!
I know what you mean, Heather – I could have eaten all of these…
if you’re going to eat a whole box of cookies, that’s a good one to do!
oh wow that vanilla fig spread looks delicious!
thanks, Jenna! hope you have a great weekend!
How smart are you? Sheesh! I did something similar last night for a snack, but I didn’t think to sandwich the mix between 2 cookies. I mixed 5 prunes, 2 tbsp maple almond nut butter, and 1 tbsp chia seeds and then spread it on apple slices. It was unreal! I’ll have to try it with cookies too!
yes – that sounds very similar! the chia in yours was probably a great crunch – similar to the fig in mine, maybe. and yeah, I could eat this without the cookies (and did…)
genius.
and bonus points for not posting sweaty post workout pics! awesomeness.
haaa! that was hilarious.
you can never go wrong with more fig. those look great!
nope, more fig is always good!
At first, I actually thought the cookies had already come with the filling, and you had picked everything out before taking the just-cookies picture. But then I understood that you had *added* the filling to the cookies which had just come as … well, *cookies*, plain and simple, and were happy to be turned into little artworks by Spabetti kitchen witchery.
haa – that might be something I would do – but in this case no! I would never want to get rid of the figgy goodness. I made something else with these cookies also, just WAIT until you see…
love figs!! the spread sounds great
we have made a raw fig newton before, a recipe that we still are perfecting.
yes – I’ve made something like a raw fig newton before too… love them!
I’m drooling. Each ingredient is my favorite. Yum!
I know. me too. so yum! <3
Ooooo, perfectly figgy goodness right there!!
it really was… I love figs!
Wow the fig spread sounds wonderful. I love the crunchy seeds in dried figs and the addition of chia seeds sounds like a great idea.
I love the crunch of a fig too
How did I miss this fig spread? What in the world? I need to spend more time reading blogs.
[Actually, not...then my life would be much less interesting and I'd have nothing to blog about. But you get the idea.
]
The spread you made sounds really good. I might be tempted to eat it with a spoon.
Wow these sound amazing. I just bought a package of these fruit thins!
The cookies with the filling look SO much better than the cookies by themselves. So simple, yet so enticing!
haa – yes they do!
