One of my new favorite kitchen gadgets the gifts Jason received for his birthday was a jalapeno pepper roaster and a pepper corer. This weekend was their grillin’ debut.
I made a couple different flavors – a spicy filling and a cheddar cheese filled pepper. Both flavors great in their own ways.
spicy jalapeno poppers
6 jalapeno peppers, cored
3 tablespoons vegan cream cheese (tofutti)
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
Clean and core peppers. Combine cream cheese and barbecue sauce, fill jalapenos. (Using a spoon or pipe in with a sandwich bag, as pictured above). Grill on medium heat for 20-30 minutes, “until tip of pepper begins to char” (direct quote from Jason!). Alternately, you could bake in 350 degree oven for a similar amount of time.
cheddar jalapeno poppers
6 jalapeno peppers, cored
3 tablespoons vegan cream cheese (tofutti)
2 tablespoons Daiya ‘cheddar style’ cheese
Clean and core peppers. Combine cheeses and fill jalapenos. Follow cooking direction above.
Put on your big boy or big girl pants – these things are spicy!
We’re making more today.
Are you a jalapeno popper fan? I like them grilled, without breading.
Have you ever gifted or received a Homer Gift?

Awesome! IF i had a BBQ, I bet I’d be all over these… as if anything could replace the popper grilled cheeses, though: near and dear to my heart, always!
I know, I think I should just rename that sandwich “The Stephanie”. (If I ever open a sandwich shop, or a food thing of any kind? YOU will be on the menu!).
or a cook book!! I can name it that in my cook book!!
done.
Oh YES!!! Every time one of my social circle gets pregnant lately (and, hey, I’m 34. It’s happening a LOT), I keep pestering them for what I call “my legacy”. I like the name “Stephanie”, but so far I haven’t been ablt to convince any of them to name a bambina Stephanie, or even any other S name in my honour. Boo! BUT! My quest is complete if the legacy comes true, even in sandwich form—what human child could achieve the perfection of this sandwich, after all?
My friends, I’m sure, thank you. And I’m just happy to know you.
I get it, we have many babies around us also… (we went to a 3 year old’s birthday party last weekend, and we were one of two couples without kids there… so during the puppet show I was in charge of the dog!) which I preferred…
it is settled then. WHEN my cookbook comes out, there will be The Stephanie included.
Those look so delicious! I had no idea a pepper roaster existed but my BF would love one – he’s so into spicy peppers! Amazing!
I had no idea either, I think I discovered it in a “grilling” email from Williams Sonoma! you know, the things you usually delete before opening, but GRILLING caught my eye.
A pepper roaster? (my) Jason is going to be super jealous of that!
I’ve never had not-breaded/fried jalepeno poppers — these look much more delicious!
you know, Holly, our Jasons sound similar in many ways (I cannot even think of examples past the jalapenos right now, but I know we’ve both said “my Jason is the same” many times!)
I’m with you—a big fan of the poppers, but definitely grilled with no breading!
These look awesome!
Hi Lisa B! I used to LOVE those traditional poppers in college… but I used to love many things I cannot think of eating now. Give me FRESH. (even the “cheese” in these is becoming a stretch, but I can eat a couple…)
Oh YUM! I love jalepeno poppers! We have a ton of banana peppers here right now and I bet you could do the same thing with them. I’m gonna give it a try anyway!
yep, they work too!! I know this because of course I’ve done it.
(well, perhaps not banana, but I had some sweet peppers we did this with, just as good and for those who like only a LITTLE spicy, even better! Enjoy! XO
My husband would LOVE these! he is such a hot pepper fan, I am not, but he would love!
Happy Wednesday!! xoxo <3
a VERY FEW years ago, I was not a fan of ANYTHING spicy hot (some of my longtime blog readers may not believe that!) and now I cannot get enough. I love it!
make these for Mike.
Well that is an awesome kitchen gadget
I don’t know when I’ve last had a jalapeno popper, but I love anything and everything spicy
isn’t it fun, Allie?
and making your own poppers is fun.
You already know I’m all about spicy foods and I love jalapeno poppers. I started baking them actually. Makes a super fast little snack. Now if my jalapeno plant would just produce for me….
yep, totally thought of you, Heather, as I was making these!
Oooooooooooh yes!! This sounds awesome!! The jalepenos up here lately have been SO HOT – like so so hot. I wonder if they would cool off once they get cooked!
they get HOTTER with cooking in my experience.
removing the seeds helps some…
Damn, Jason got some nice gifts!!
I looooooove jalapeno anything, especially poppers! When I did the whole low carb thing I used to make them all the time wrapped in a maple glazed bacon. Heaven
I have seen the bacon wrapped ones… never tried it, but… Mmm
LOVE this gift idea! We love poppers! Jalapenos are always welcome in our world. I do like them breaded but grilled would be amazing too.
I knew it would be a gift Jason AND I would both enjoy
we LOVE jalapenos!
the filling sounds…GREAT!
yuuuuum
thanks, Averie! we like SPICY.
HOLY GET IN MY FACE. Brilliant!! Move over TGI Fridays — way better.
oh, YEAH baby! TGI whaaaa?
XXO!
I love, love, love cute kitchen gadets. If I had more cabinet room I would have a lot more.
I know… me too. this I could justify, it’s small.
WHAT. That contraption is so flipping cool.
heee! isn’t it fun? a couple of the peppers were THIN, so they slipped right through! I need to get plump peppers for these recipes…
Fun! I wish I had a BBQ. I try to do things on the indoor grill, but it doesn’t compare. They’re just SO expensive… and I opted for a food processor instead. I didn’t even know they made pepper corers. How neat!
I had never seen a pepper corer either, but we’ve already gotten SO much use out of it!
it’s funny, I sometimes wish we had an INDOOR grill!
(like, the nine months of the year we cannot use our outdoor one!)
I must admit I’m not a pepper fan, but these look great! I love that the filling of the BBQ ones got pink!
I can only imagine how many gadgets and quirky kitchen appliances y’all have, and it’s wonderful! You are truly an all-around chef…apps to desserts.
I’m drooling over these bad boys! I’ve never had a popper before, but this must change ASAP!
oh, Jen, YES it must!
A pepper roaster???? Holy smokes (no pun intended) that is quite the gadget! These look fantastic. Great photos as always, have a great week.
haaa, ROZ!! holy smokes is RIGHT!
thank you – I hope your week is going well also!
Now that is a gift for serious jalapeno lovers! I’ve got to share this one with some similar minded friends immediately. LOL Happy birthday to Jason!
xo,
Shirley
thank you, Shirley – I will pass on the birthday wishes!
yes, please share – I had no idea either of these existed, and my fellow jalapeno lovers may like to know!
OMG, this is hilarious! I love it!! They look fab by the way…you are so creative with your food, I love it!
xxoo
Looks fantastic! I love the idea of not using breading. So much cleaner and you can really taste the pepper!
exactly!
ooh, yummy lady! And hey I’m finally here – only 20 posts behind. :/ But seriously, these poppers look d-lish!
well, hello there! hope you’re having a great summer, my friend!
oooh yum! i was going to buy the vegan cream cheese this weekend and spaced out and went home without it. grr. I want to try it!
my fav way to eat jalapenos (or jalaps as p calls em) is raw and straight up sliced on top of everything! everrrrrything!
ha – jason calls them juh LAH pen oes. once again, these guys sound alike…
and tofutti is THE BEST!!
Ooo — we make grilled jalepeno poppers all the time but nothing this fancy!
I’ll have to show this to Hubby and see if he thinks he can pull it off.
I just subscribed to your blog FOR THIS POST ALONE. I love the look of these, and will be making them this weekend at our BBQ!!! thanks!!!
I love jalapeno everything and I want that stand too! these sound amazing
I add jalapenos to quite a few things too – LOVE them! the stand is great – really practical, for me, anyway!
These grilling racks have been around for a few years. I saw my first one three or four years ago on amazon and had to have it. Unfortunately I decided I should have one to make 24 peppers at once and found I am the only one who can eat more than one.
we love jalapeno pepper anything at our house – one of those racks would be a good thing, and this recipe looks very good, thank you!!!
you’re welcome, Jack! hope you try these and love them!
loving your blog, going to make these next! you are quite inventive.
okay, now I REALLY love your webpage. these are the best.
spabettie has done it again! I made these and they were a big hit.
YAY!
YUM. you make vegan look good.
thank you!!
LOOOOOOK SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!
perfection. nothing like a fresh grilled popper.
I will be preparing these all summer long!
as will we – enjoy!
