grilled jalapeno poppers

One of my new favorite kitchen gadgets the gifts Jason received for his birthday was a jalapeno pepper roaster and a pepper corer. This weekend was their grillin’ debut.

I made a couple different flavors – a spicy filling and a cheddar cheese filled pepper. Both flavors great in their own ways.

spicy jalapeno poppers

6 jalapeno peppers, cored
3 tablespoons vegan cream cheese (tofutti)
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce

Clean and core peppers. Combine cream cheese and barbecue sauce, fill jalapenos. (Using a spoon or pipe in with a sandwich bag, as pictured above). Grill on medium heat for 20-30 minutes, “until tip of pepper begins to char” (direct quote from Jason!). Alternately, you could bake in 350 degree oven for a similar amount of time.

cheddar jalapeno poppers

6 jalapeno peppers, cored
3 tablespoons vegan cream cheese (tofutti)
2 tablespoons Daiya ‘cheddar style’ cheese

Clean and core peppers. Combine cheeses and fill jalapenos. Follow cooking direction above.

Put on your big boy or big girl pants – these things are spicy!

We’re making more today.

Are you a jalapeno popper fan? I like them grilled, without breading.

Have you ever gifted or received a Homer Gift? ;)

Awesome! IF i had a BBQ, I bet I’d be all over these… as if anything could replace the popper grilled cheeses, though: near and dear to my heart, always!

I know, I think I should just rename that sandwich “The Stephanie”. (If I ever open a sandwich shop, or a food thing of any kind? YOU will be on the menu!).

or a cook book!! I can name it that in my cook book!! :D done.

Oh YES!!! Every time one of my social circle gets pregnant lately (and, hey, I’m 34. It’s happening a LOT), I keep pestering them for what I call “my legacy”. I like the name “Stephanie”, but so far I haven’t been ablt to convince any of them to name a bambina Stephanie, or even any other S name in my honour. Boo! BUT! My quest is complete if the legacy comes true, even in sandwich form—what human child could achieve the perfection of this sandwich, after all? ;)

My friends, I’m sure, thank you. And I’m just happy to know you. :D

I get it, we have many babies around us also… (we went to a 3 year old’s birthday party last weekend, and we were one of two couples without kids there… so during the puppet show I was in charge of the dog!) which I preferred… ;)

it is settled then. WHEN my cookbook comes out, there will be The Stephanie included. :D

Those look so delicious! I had no idea a pepper roaster existed but my BF would love one – he’s so into spicy peppers! Amazing! :)

I had no idea either, I think I discovered it in a “grilling” email from Williams Sonoma! you know, the things you usually delete before opening, but GRILLING caught my eye. :D

A pepper roaster? (my) Jason is going to be super jealous of that!

I’ve never had not-breaded/fried jalepeno poppers — these look much more delicious!

you know, Holly, our Jasons sound similar in many ways (I cannot even think of examples past the jalapenos right now, but I know we’ve both said “my Jason is the same” many times!) :D

I’m with you—a big fan of the poppers, but definitely grilled with no breading!

These look awesome!

Hi Lisa B! I used to LOVE those traditional poppers in college… but I used to love many things I cannot think of eating now. Give me FRESH. (even the “cheese” in these is becoming a stretch, but I can eat a couple…)

Oh YUM! I love jalepeno poppers! We have a ton of banana peppers here right now and I bet you could do the same thing with them. I’m gonna give it a try anyway!

Reply

13 spabettie July 6, 2011 at 7:55 am

yep, they work too!! I know this because of course I’ve done it. ;) (well, perhaps not banana, but I had some sweet peppers we did this with, just as good and for those who like only a LITTLE spicy, even better! Enjoy! XO

Damn, Jason got some nice gifts!!

I looooooove jalapeno anything, especially poppers! When I did the whole low carb thing I used to make them all the time wrapped in a maple glazed bacon. Heaven :)

Fun! I wish I had a BBQ. I try to do things on the indoor grill, but it doesn’t compare. They’re just SO expensive… and I opted for a food processor instead. I didn’t even know they made pepper corers. How neat!

Reply

35 spabettie July 6, 2011 at 3:14 pm

I had never seen a pepper corer either, but we’ve already gotten SO much use out of it! :) it’s funny, I sometimes wish we had an INDOOR grill! :) (like, the nine months of the year we cannot use our outdoor one!) :D

These grilling racks have been around for a few years. I saw my first one three or four years ago on amazon and had to have it. Unfortunately I decided I should have one to make 24 peppers at once and found I am the only one who can eat more than one.
