I was talking to a new friend the other day (I miss all my classmates!), and we were having an in depth conversation about wine. I was telling her I need to branch out, that I generally stick to dry bold reds. She brought up Rose, which always immediately makes me think of the Zinfandel in the fridges of my childhood. No thanks.
As you can tell by that comparison, I know little about wine, other than what I like.
I like dry, not sweet. Unless the sweet is in natural form, like fruit. I can drink a fruity sangria all afternoon.
fruity sangria
adapted from Cooking Light
1 pint raspberries
1/2 pint blueberries
1 mango, peeled, pitted, cubed
1/2 grapefruit, peeled, segmented
1/2 cup cherry juice
1/2 cup soda water
1 (750ml) bottle wine (dry Rose)
Combine all ingredients into a pitcher, refrigerate at least two hours.
Serve outside in the sunshine – enjoy!
We are finally using the serving tray / lazy susan we brought home from Napa last year – made from the top of a wine barrel, and it spins!
Cheers!

These look so refreshing that I want one…it’s only 9:30 am. Damn it.
but what time is it NOW? surely a sangria could only HELP a Friday afternoon at this point…
oh sangria! helloooo summer!!
looks so refreshing! yum!
hello summer, indeed!
have a fantastic weekend, Caralyn!
And when does your catering company open?? We need this to be legit!
Girl I agree!
aahhh, now that would be a fun thing!
I think we’re wine twins–I don’t know anything about it, except it better be dry and absolutely not sweet. With the exception of sangria. There’s a great place nearby by that serves delicious sangria, but my friend and I have been talking about making our own and saving a few dollars a week
Will be bringing up this recipe as an idea for our next friend night!
wine twins!
then this is perfect timing, have fun making your own soon!
Perfect! That looks fantastic – great pool or patio party beverage too.
absolutely – great for anything, really!
How awesome would this be sitting on our new patio once we move in a few weeks. Yum!
this would be a perfect celebratory (and whew, relaxing!) drink on that new patio!
How beautiful! All these fruits sound as if they were made for this drink!
I love this comment – the fruit was made for the drink!
Just left a comment, but it’s not there. So I’ll say once again: beautiful drink
thank you – I found it in spam and took you out!
Oh that looks so good! Okay girl the graphics on your site with the stars are adorable but making my computer not so happy so if this comment is wonky that’s why.
yikes, I don’t even know what you’re talking about? sorry about whatever it is, I’m assuming an ad??
going to look at that now, I never wanted those. XXO!
Hi Kris, so behind in my blog reading and just catching up. LOVE the wine country shots, I’m a kale addict and I wish we lived closer than we do so I could share some sangria with you! (and Basil). I thought of you yesterday, I pulled my old juicer out of storage and got reacquainted with it.
Have a great Friday.
hi Roz! how are you? great to hear from you, I know we are all busy right now… hope you are enjoying your summer! great to hear you are juicing – summer time is perfect for that, right? Cheers, have a great weekend!
These look divine! I just made your pina colada smoothie 2 days ago…yum! Keep all these fabulous recipes coming! I can’t wait to try this one and drink it on my the deck of my new home!
hey sweetie!! so good to see you comment here!
I would love to see you sometime, are you guys buying a house!? congrats – can’t wait to hear more about it! XXO love ya, Schauf
Those do look amazing–perfect for spending a hot weekend lounging in the backyard with a book and a frosty pitcher. But! There are some really good dry rosés out there lately. I will totally drink them by themselves, with no whiff of white zin. A to Z Rosé (Oregon!) and Vin Gris de Cigare Rosé (the one with the aliens on it) are great, but my absolute favorite is Domaine de la Fouquette Cuvee “Rosée d’Aurore” Cotes de Provence. If you find it, GET IT.
Vibrant and refreshing! I could totally use a glass or two!
very easy to make – is it warm where you are? make it now and it will be perfect for a late afternoon relaxation…
I like dry, not sweet. —-> same with me. I try to try new wines from time to time, but I usually just sick with the ones I like. I do need to try new ones more often because I bet there are other good ones out there – that I am not aware of
we did branch out last week on our wine country vacation, but I still tended to stay on the dry side
I could totally go for this sangria, Kristina! The fruit makes it a healthy indulgence, too.
xo,
Shirley
it IS healthy, yes! happy weekend Shirley!
Sounds very refreshing and I love that the ingredients are simple. I always want to make sangria but lots of recipes call for the wine plus generally some obscure liquer that I would have to go buy a whole bottle of just to get 1/2 cup….so this is perfect! Also that lazy susan is gorgeous!
I know, I don’t think I’ve ever made sangria with brandy or any other liquor – (I have never had brandy in the house!?) but I always have wine…
we made these last night, so good they are being made again right now. for later, of course
so happy they were a part of your holiday, Jonathan!
this is beautiful!
