As long as my house is clean, I am almost always up for some impromptu entertaining. Last minute spontaneity is a fun challenge, and I always love to have people over to our house. We always have a bottle of wine we can open, and at the very least, some nuts, olives, dried fruit and other fun nibbles on hand.
Once I check the possibilities in my ‘snacks’ cabinet (what, you don’t have one of those?), I then head to my metro rack of dishes, platters and linens. One quick way to make an impromptu get together not look so last minute is to include linens and fancy plates and serving pieces.
Even if all you are sharing is small nibbles like nuts and olives or cheeses and crackers, stepping up the elegance by using fancier serve ware takes no more time at the last minute. Adding linens and fun wine glasses or cocktail tumblers complete the feel of “I’ve been planning this all day!”
When hosting a last minute thing, another place to find goodies is the freezer – I always have truffles, snacky bites and chocolate peanut butter cups filled with interesting things…
and if you were looking in my freezer, you’d also find seven different varieties of homemade ice cream…
As I get settled into our new house, much of my design plans are with entertaining in mind. My kitchen renovation plans include a new refrigerator. Jason and I both enjoy our wine, and we love to entertain – the LG Blast Chiller option is something I am considering. Chilled wine in 8 minutes? A cold beer in five? In eight minutes I can have a full table of goodies set up – want to come over for an impromptu party?
The LG Blast Chiller, available in the 3-Door Super Capacity French-Door refrigerator (LFX31935), can chill a room temperature, 12oz beverage in five minutes or a bottle of wine in just eight minutes. By comparison, a typical refrigerator takes about 40 minutes to accomplish this task – even in the freezer. This refrigerator is also among the largest capacity 36-inch refrigerators currently on the market, offering almost 20 percent more space and the ability to store over 50 gallons of milk.

I swear you should be a party caterer….or at least have me over to one
oooh, that would be so fun!
I really need to stop reading your posts when I am hungry and lunch is nearing
just saying hehe. You SHOULD be a party planner! come plan one for me
nooooo – that’s exactly when you need to be reading!
I would LOVE to plan a party for you!
You are well prepared for guests. I think if I had my freezer stocked with goodies I would probably end up eating them!
well, yes, I do that too
but it is nice to have things ready, especially at the last minute or a couple sweets to bring to a friend…
Love the “put it on a fancy plate” tip. A store canister of nuts? Not fancy. Those same nuts dumped in a fancy bowl? Gourmet.
P.S.–Did you get my e-mail response to the Pacific giveaway?? Just want to make sure it went through!
I love my fancy plates
and YES – I received your giveaway list – it should be on it’s way soon! XXO
8 minutes?! I’m impressed. We use the ice bucket & water method for a quick chill today.
I do that too. I used to use the quick chiller at the store, but most of our wine these days comes from wineries and our wine club shipments… I think I need this refrigerator!
Those few recipes you shared sound amazing… and great tips! Will have to try the pretty cocktail glass idea!
fancy glasses always make things more fun
What great tips. 8 minutes for wine, sign me up!
right?? I need this!
Awesome! Great tips. I’m always doing last minute entertaining. I too have a rack of linens, nice plates/platters, and lots of glassware. I think that they just bring such a step up to even the simplest of get-togethers.
I need to start stocking my freezer with nibbles. (I always eat them.)
thanks Jenni! and yes – the freezer full of treats has come in handy MANY times…
Sigh, if only I had the space to entertain. I may have to try a small get together though this season!
I know what you mean – our first place was an 800 square foot apartment in the city! We just bought this house this year, and I am SO excited to be able to entertain more – the holidays are going to be fun here!
mmm! Wine, dried fruit and olives sounds yummy right now!
I’m on my way.
I love using nice serving ware and dishes. It steps everything up a notch.
it’s just more fun, right? I have singles and doubles of plates and serving pieces that I use for food photography, but we also use them to eat from – it is really nice
What a great collection of treats! I’m headed over right now to check out those tahini bites. A beautiful website you have here!!! Thanks for adding me in G+.
thank you so much, you just made my day!
Wasabi peanut butter cups?!! What? LOVE it!
PLEASE try them. they are so very good!
