spabettie office remodel

After living in our new house for 8 months now, I am determined to finish more big projects this spring. I have been working on things room by room, and will share more here as rooms are complete. For example, our family room has been done for a while, aside from the curtain panels I finally decided on and ordered a while back. They should be here within a month.

In the meantime, I moved the decorating upstairs to my room. One of the spare bedrooms has turned into my office and home exercise area – my desk is up there, as well as a television, my treadmill, trampoline, weights, ab machine and … two closets full of clothes.

I have a bright fuchsia desk, so I thought it fitting that I paint one wall a bright color to match. I chose #6767 Aquarium from Sherwin Williams, in their Emerald zero VOC paint. I love it. Accessories in lime green and bright white complete the fun look I was going for.

Target recently invited me to shop from their new Threshold design series, and I was like a kid in a candy store. So many beautiful things. You know the lure of Target anyway, right? This new brand adds sleek sophistication to the fun, for sure.

I had so much fun painting and decorating my new office space – and I love my new bright work area! I linked to as much as I could find online; some things are available in stores only.

This wall shelf set in white finish is a sharp contrast to the blue wall. Two boxes full of treasures sit next to my monkey trio on the bottom shelf. Middle shelf holds a photo of my brother and I as kids, next to a mini Eiffel and two colorful souvenirs from our backpacking trip through Mexico. We picked them up in Sayulita. A dachshund is perched atop the smallest shelf…

This large white mirror hangs next to these shelves, just to the left of a framed (30th!) birthday drawing from a friend.

This fun bowl holds my mail – I love the bright green and the scalloped edge. I believe it is part of the Garden Party Collection.

A large tray in the same green works as my double inbox, corralling documents, pads of paper, lists and journals. I love this tray.

This funky accent table is a perfect addition to my office – it sits next to my desk and holds my afternoon sugar fix, a candle and my New York City snow globe.

My office (and the whole hallway upstairs!) now smells of warm vanilla. I bought two of the large Threshold 3-wick pillars, and two of the single wick pillars.

Heaven scent!

Ahem. Sorry.

These white ceramic pillar holders are new from the Threshold line as well – more bright white – I love these sturdy curvy candlesticks.

A pretty cup and saucer from this aqua dinnerware set for my morning coffee and energy balls. More bright color. My new candy bowl is part of this set as well:

Afternoon sugar fix, anyone?

I would LOVE to help you decorate! So fun to me, although it doesn’t always come easy, for sure! (some of the rooms in our new place are half finished for a reason…) ;) I love my pink – and all the bright just wakes me up, you know?

yes Yes YES I would love to! I am no expert, and decorating some of the bigger rooms in our house is VERY DIFFICULT to figure out! I knew I wanted to go bright and bold in my own space, so this was really fun.

Wow, such fun colors! I was looking at that table last weekend, and some other geometrical designed cubes and cabinets. I live Target ;) looks great!!

Gah! LOVE your office!! I cannot wait to decorate and make my office and home my own!! Even if it takes months and months :)

19 Kristina Sloggett March 19, 2013 at 7:20 am

I actually suggest you DO take months… give your new house (YAAAY!) time to be lived in, get used to it. I had some VERY specific ideas for decorating, and after living here a bit (and thinking of resale values, sophistication and universal chic vs. Just What I Like), my ideas have completely changed! I am NOW ready to move forward, 3 quarters later!

I am SO excited for you guys, your house is beautiful!

I need you to come help me. I tried to paint an accent wall… it ended up being nearly the exact same color as the other walls. #fail

oh no!! :) the same thing happened with my mom recently – they chose two shades of paint for their family room, and she said you cannot tell the difference. I would LOVE to come help you paint – it’s SO fun! (um, to me?) ;)

I can’t wait to have my own home so that I can paint the walls beautiful colors. Living in a rental can be so drab. I love LOVE that little dachshund sculpture thing.

25 Kristina Sloggett March 20, 2013 at 5:57 am

I know how you feel, I did the rental thing for many years. that’s how I ended up with a bright pink desk, you know, you just have to add bright where you can! ;)

I love going over to the US to shop there now I have one here :) Anyways I dont normally post but I saw something today that I knew you’d appreciate, a daschund umbrella! http://www.eluxe.ca/en/san-francisco-umbrella-co-daschund-walking-stick-umbrella-blue.html

well GOOD for you getting your own Target in your area – that is great! I have two stores very close to me, and I can appreciate those who must drive a bit for a good Target experience. Did you go to the Grand Opening, or will you soon? :)

I LOVE the umbrella! thanks for sharing, and THANK YOU for posting and saying hello – I always love to hear from my readers!

I went to the opening in the city beside mine as it was a few weeks ago, it had very little stock though so I think I will give the Brampton one (near Toronto) a few more weeks so its fully stocked!
Glad u liked it!
And thank you for posting such great recipes and sharing your life with us!! Love reading the blog!

thank YOU Jenisia – I appreciate you reading and I am happy you enjoy the recipes. and at Target, if you are looking for the Threshold line specifically, it is kindof all over the place – mostly marked with large signs, but you have to look for it down the aisles… I hope you find all kinds of fun stuff in Brampton!

you must get there – whether to check out the new designs or just… walk around the store. It’s Target – what is not to like? :)

I LOVE what you’ve done with the place. :) Not going to lie, I am a little jealous. Target shopping spree? Yes, please! Unfortunately, I have no decorating skills or ‘nesting’ desires at this juncture in my life.

I know, I was incredibly lucky to have this shopping spree opportunity – especially at a store I love anyway – I had been eyeing some of this stuff. I don’t claim to have skill, but I have always loved decorating. even as a kid, I was often rearranging the furniture in my room…
