aspects of a healthy lifestyle – Wellness Week

fresh veggies

Last Wednesday I shared how I stay healthy under stress, some of which could really be applied to every day – the simple steps toward a healthy lifestyle. Here are some of mine:

Eat real food. as unprocessed as possible, as natural as possible, and as colorful as possible – veggies and fruits in abundance! Stick to healthy fats, lean proteins, natural sugars.

Exercise! Cardio workouts, even as little as 20-30 minutes a day, have a big impact on health and wellness. Add weight lifting to that cardio for additional benefits, like increased metabolism. Another very important aspect of exercise – not overdoing it. when your body needs rest, listen to it. if you have an injury, follow docs orders for “working through” it or keeping off of it. Fuel your body properly for exercise.

Recognizing and managing stress, setting aside time for yourself is critical.

Sleeping for the number of hours your body requires. Lack of adequate sleep … just makes me tired thinking about it!

Drink a lot of water – while working with naturopaths, I often hear them say “drink half of your body weight in ounces per day” and I try to do this. I always have a water bottle with me, and sometimes enhance it with flavor: fresh mint, lemon wedges, apple cider vinegar, cucumber slices, ginger.

What are some of your tips for a healthy lifestyle?

February 6, 2013

I had a different post on deck for today’s Wellness Wednesday, but am sitting here writing this one in real time because… that’s how I’m rolling today. It has been another extremely stressful and emotional week, for sure. I am exhausted, and really, nothing has even happened yet. After a short night of sleep and [...]

choices in outlook – Wellness Week

January 31, 2013

To me, wellness encompasses much more than nutrition, fitness and self-care. If I have learned one important thing in this life, it is that attitude is everything. Well, it’s a lot. When my dear Uncle Dudley was diagnosed with cancer years ago, his immediate and awesome reaction was “well, we’re gonna beat this $#!*. and [...]

I shared yesterday that I am taking the Master Veg program and I could not be more excited about it – I have already learned so much, and the curriculum ahead of me looks great. This is another instance where I find myself in a classroom surrounded by like minded people, which is always invigorating and [...]

You may have noticed that recent Wednesdays have been Wellness Wednesdays at spabettie, something new I am doing as I continue to educate myself on all aspects of wellness – inside and out. I am currently enrolled in the Master Veg program offered through NCNM, Portland’s naturopathic college. I could not be more excited – I [...]

healthy defense juice – Wellness Wednesday

January 23, 2013

The news tells us this year the flu is the worst ever. My schedule is jam packed right now – not complaining at all, I am having FUN – and I am tired. I am afraid to breathe when someone sneezes or coughs in public. I am using antibac gel like body lotion. I’m not [...]
