staying healthy through stress – Wellness Wednesday

I had a different post on deck for today’s Wellness Wednesday, but am sitting here writing this one in real time because… that’s how I’m rolling today.

It has been another extremely stressful and emotional week, for sure. I am exhausted, and really, nothing has even happened yet. After a short night of sleep and a busy day yesterday, all I wanted to do was go to sleep at 4:pm. I had a dinner date with two girlfriends, then class to go to later.

I rallied, I picked myself up, had an extra shot of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and aminos, and was out the door!

Sitting with the girls was not only a therapeutic and much needed break, we laughed and smiled and talked and talked and talked. We enjoyed fresh juice and wonderful raw food for dinner, and I was thankful to be there.

Right now for me, Wellness means staying healthy while under extra stress. That means making sure I am taking my supplements (I have that vitamin post coming soon!), increasing things like zinc and vitamin c and more of my favorite remedy, vibrant fresh juice and veggies.

Wellness also means choosing a few more hours in a day, when you get to spend those hours with the rich company of friends. I came home and relaxed to unwind and catch up with Jason (I call him my soother), and went to sleep early. I slept in until 5:30 today, and I honestly do feel refreshed.

…spending some down time with these two? Very therapeutic.

thoughts and things

in Basil is a Young Sportsman

I am recovering from a relaxing weekend. I gave myself permission to do nothing. Though I cancelled more plans than I kept (sorry Sarah, sorry Alix – I look forward to our rescheduled events this weekend!), I did not miss a dear friend’s baby shower.

Part of the baby shower fun was creating custom onesies with fabric pens. Such a fun idea, I want to throw a baby shower so I can do this again! Here is mine:

The train wraps around the back. Drawing is much more fun with a bunch of girls and some mango mimosas!

I also had a couple of valuable conversations with some people who have been through what I am going through with my Dad. Mutual venting with a very strong friend going through her fathers brain cancer and all the complications that come along with it. Several incredible information filled conversations with a friend who is so generously sharing her first hand knowledge of caring for a parent.

Last but certainly not least, more fantastic and detailed help from a friend whose Pop has just beat cancer, and he was the main caregiver for him. Not only that, it was the same cancer my Dad is currently battling. I was quickly typing notes into my phone as he gave me great info on things to do and use as my Dad progresses with his treatment. He also said it is incredibly difficult, but he can make it through (he knows my Dad). We held hands and cheersed a beer to Dad’s health. I am so happy his Pop is cancer free.

I just paused here for more than ten minutes, taking in the feelings, so incredibly grateful for all the amazing people in my life. I am blessed.

In the relaxing of the weekend, I also took time to give myself a manicure.

The grey polish goes well with the houndstooth, yes?

Also, I wore green. Did not drink green beer. Did visit a Tiki Bar.

Stocked up on my omegas. I know I’ve talked about coromega before. I still love it just as much. No, now I love it even more, since they have chocolate orange flavor now!

Ate this sandwich, made with this salad.

and made this amazing fudge. Then covered it in peanut butter.

Now I begin my regular week. Four more days ’til Saturday. Make it a great one!

tropical cure all

I have been having headaches again – this one has been four days now. Thursday and Friday all day, then I woke up with it Saturday, but it was very mild. We went downtown that morning for the movie, and went to my favorite coffee shop first. I think the caffeine helped, while Jason thinks we are allergic to our house (he suffers from headaches also). So Saturday I had a reprieve, yesterday it was back and again today.

Apparently a side effect is that I cannot count.

Today I am starting FRESH. Today I am focusing on simple foods – first my juice this morning and now this smoothie. I added a packet of Coromega Omega 3 + D that I learned about from Lindsay (see? I told you I was a product junkie, and a quick one!).

Coromega tastes amazing and as Lindsay says, has a 300% absorption rate. I love my omegas, and these really make up for a horrible fish oil chewable I cannot believe I recently tried.

Coromega? No Fishie. No kidding!

tropical cure all smoothie

serves one

1 small container (11.2 oz) coconut water
1/3 cup fresh pineapple chunks
4 handfuls fresh spinach
1 banana
1 packet Coromega

Blend, blend, blend!

Please give any and all advice for headache relief. I am currently on allergy medication, magnesium, biofreeze on my head (very soothing!) and now, a lot hydration and whole foods.

Disclaimer! I purchased my Coromega myself and this is my own opinion. Coromega doesn’t know who I am. :D
